Well, we made it back from the great state of AR. It was a lovely drive thru the "hoot and hollars" of N Central AR. I learned so many new things on this trip. When I was an HU student, we traveled on different highways and byways. Then when we went on our family reunion camping extravaganza, still different highways. So I'm just now learning this route. One of the most memorable sights has to finding the Rusty Engine Club of No. Ark. This big yard had rusty farm implements with one tractor suspended in the air over the sign. It was amazing! I never knew that there was a real club for such things. I kept my eye peeled all the rest of the way and home again for the other Rusty Clubs, like the Rusty Appliance Club and the Rusty Vehicle Club and Junky Yard Sale Headquarters etc.... There are so many members to the fore-mentioned clubs, but their meeting places may be elsewhere. I'll keep looking though. :)
It was a fun, fun weekend. H was an awesome traveling companion. She wouldn't take a turn driving, but she did share her Easter treats with me to keep me awake. I had so much chocolate and Diet Coke I could croak at the thought of either anytime soon. (A new phenomena for one on a steady choco-diet for 40+ years). She enjoyed putting the middle seat down and recline the back seat and watch a DVD of her choosing, no one to argue with her at all. A rare occurrence and she enjoyed it.
We stayed with my college friends. They make it so easy to come and go do our stuff return, eat, leave etc.....It was so fun to get to visit with their grown up kids. I am still amazed at how fun it is to get to know the adult children of one's friends. Even when you knew them as kids. It's so cool how they turn out to be real people that you like to see and with whom to visit. We had this happen alot over the years to our cousins (love their big kids) and lots of friends, but it's still amazing. It's that "time warp" effect. How can these cute little kids, turn into grown-ups and could that happen to mine? Weird, I know.
Anyway, we got to see Jess some. She was busy performing in the show as a ninja--a gorgeous one, but very scary, fighting, singing ninja. We LOVED the show. My friends and I drove our kids crazy telling them "how it used to be in the olden days." But we were quick to say that the old shows were sad compared to the huge production numbers and the amazing talent that we saw. Such a deal and so fun!!! Jess' club got 1st runner up (translated: came in 2nd) and they were pleased, wanted to win, but ok with 2nd---won 1st in costumes---very nice! So it's over and Jess can resume a normal college life of study, study, study---yeah, right. :) Glad she had so much fun---stuff she will always remember.
The girls were glad to have their mom come home. So was their dad. :) I forgot how cute they were, after only 3 days, huh. Em has let me hold her about 5 times, alot for her. We went to the park this am and I tried to run off a few Easter choco treats. I had a really nice run--about 2 miles and prob worked off only 1 handful of peanut M & M's. Maybe by this time next week, I'll be 1/2 way there. :)
Time to reclaim the laundry and look for the vacuum. :)

Glad you made it home safely. You left just in time for the heat wave to get worse -- 93 degrees today, ugh! It's supposed to get more "normal" in a day or two, but until then, it's A/C, baby.
We certainly enjoyed you all being here, too. It was a nice break from the normal nonsense that we seem to not be able to live without. Anyway, until next time, keep it under the radar, and remember that we'll always leave the light on for you.

So who won Spring Sing this year?

As a ZP alumni and mother of a ZP performer....I'm proud to say, "ZETA RHO and TNT!" Ha! I'm Kris's friend from HU, too! I agree with you Kris! The show was fabulous and if you don't call that dancing, then I don't know what they call it on Broadway! It was wonderful and so grown up from when we were there. I was certainly proud of having 2 daughters performing. One w/ Regina and one w/ Zeta Rho. I took a hundreds of photos...wish I'd thought to look for Jess! I enjoyed your synopsis. Keep running for me. Pattie
Hey, I just posted a rather lenghty blog comment, but when I put in the crazy word verification password thing it all disappeared, along with my comment. Love that new technology!
Anyway, the Reader's Digest condensed version of what I said before was just a smart-alecky comment (NO, really?) pointing out some of the other hot touristy spots along the Hwy 65 North Arkansas Corridor. Besides the Rusty Engines Club that you pointed out, there is Hick's Farms Produce (imagine that, Hicks in Arkansas), Rex's Arificial Limb & Brace Co., located across from the Med Evac helicopter. Then there's two Goat Gap Trading Posts, the Kenda Drive-In Theatre (one of only 2 or 3 still in operation in the state), the Mountain Springs Creamery, the Silver Hill Boer Goat farm, the Little Red Rock Shop, the Hilltop Stone Company, and then the Botkinburg Antique Warehouse. Of course, no trip to Searcy is complete without traversing the official shortcut connecting Hwy 65 and Hwy 124, the Gravesville Cutoff.
Anyway, it was wordier (and I think, better) in the other rendition, but it got lost in cyberspace. So, here you are. Maybe on your next trip through the Corridor, your experience will be enhanced!

Thanks, Tour Guide DKD,
I'll try to stay awake next time thru N Central AR---joke!! I do plan on stopping by that real creamery and see if their ice cream can compare to the yummy Central Dairy ice cream from my youth, JC MO. I think it may take MANY samples to make a decision--good thing I have until 2023 or so to drive thru AR. lol
If by chance I discover an acceptable restroom at any of your aforementioned stops, then I may be a regular at those establishments too. I used to collect rocks, so who knows. :) I wonder if Hwy 71 has such interesting features. hmmm.
The Creamery in Marshall does indeed have restroom facilities, so all the more reason to stop. But, if you want to take home one of those real glass milk bottles for your curio cabinet, it'll cost you a deposit fee. Sorry, I don't think the rock shops have restroom facilities, unless you consider the woods out back! Oh, I forgot to mention in my tour the Serenity Farms Bakery, just south of Leslie on the northbound side of the road. They had a big write-up in the Arkansas Demozette today. They have daily fresh-baked organic breads and pastries. Looks like it might be worth a stop. Later.
